El cumpleanos de Siri, 15 de abril, lo pasamos en Champasak. Llegar hasta ahi fue complicado (como os contaba antes los lao no colaboran mucho durante el ano nuevo, y lo que es peor, intentan venderte los servicios por un precio desorbitado), pero al final conseguimos un bus comunitario que nos llevo hasta ahi por un precio razonable. Champasak es un pueblito de nada, pero esta a unos kilometros del Wat Phu, un templo Khemer muy famoso. Al dia siguiente, el dia de su cumple, madrugamos para poder llegar hasta el templo antes de que amaneciera. Mas o menos lo conseguimos, y a las 6 de la manana, con las primeras luces del dia, tomamos un picnic cerca del templo. Antes de entrar a visitarlo seguimos un camino por el que habiamos visto pasar a decenas de locales, y llegamos a un cobertizo donde se habian ido congregando. Alli celebraban una ceremonia de culto a los espiritus del pueblo, todos traian ofrendas de todo tipo, desde cigarrillos hasta M.150 (algo como redbull). Pasamos un rato entretenido mientras ellos cantaban y brindaba con lao lao (Whisky de arroz).
La visita al templo consistia en visitar las ruinas de un templo Khemer construidas en una colina. Fue muy interesante, y al haber llegado temprano evitamos la acomulacion de turistas. No tengo ganas de esplicaros el templo en detalle... mirar las fotos... ; )
Despues de la visita estabamos muertos de hambre, eran las 11 de la manana pero parecian las 3 de la tarde. Mientras comiamos volvio a pasar el grupo de la ceremonia... que con el monton de lao lao que se habian tomado, debian ver espiritus por todos lados!! De vuelta hacia el pueblo paramos para tomar un batido en un baretillo de por ahi... y de la nada empezo a llegar una procesion de gente, bastante tocadillos tambien, y nos quedamos con ellos, a remojarnos con agua por fuera y cerveza por dentro, un ratillo...
De vuelta, despues de hacer una siestecilla, nos unimos a otra fiesta de quinzeaneros para acabar la celebracion del Pi Mai y del cumple de Siri!
We celebrated Siris birthday, 15th of april, in Champasak. Getting there was quite complicated (lao people dont like to work during their new years celebration), but we eventually got a ride there.
Champasak its a little town, but its close to Wat Phu, to famous Khemer temple. The day after we got there, her birthday, we got up at 5 in the morning to hit the temple before sunrise. We almost acomplished it, and at 6 o'clock we were having breakfast next to it. Before we went in, we followed some locals to a meeting unternith a roof, they were celebrating a ceremony for the village spirits, offering them from cigarretes to M.150 (something like redbull). It was fun to see, especially when they started singing and punding lao lao (rice whisky).
The visit to the temple ruins, set on a hill, was really interesting. But I dont feel like explaining it... watch the fotos!!
After that, eating lunch at 11am, we met again the people of the ceremony again... with the loads of lao lao the seem to have had I am sure they saw spirits everywhere!! On the way back to town we stop to have a drink and suddenly, coming out of nowhere, locals started joining us. We spent some time with them getting wet, outside with water inside with buzz..
Back into town, after a little nap, we joined a 15 year olds party to finish up the celebration of the Pi Mai Lao and of Siris Birthday!
