Vang Vieng, pueblecito de nada situado entre Vientiane y Luang Prabang, es el destino mochilero numero uno en Laos. La gran atraccion del pueblo es el Tubing. La actividad consiste en flotar sobre un pneumatico de camion y navegar rio abajo, desde unos 8km mas al norte de vuelta a Vang Vieng. Los alrededores del rio son espectaculares, acantilados y bosques que te dejan con la boca abierta, y el flotar en una mierdecita de pneumatico hace que realmente te sientas parte del entorno. Pero bueno… a la mayoria de gente esto le importa un pito! Ya que la verdadera actividad consiste en bajar el rio y pararse cada 50metros en uno de los 20 bares que hay en las orillas… y ahi beber hasta que el cuerpo aguante, saltar desde tirolinas hasta el rio, jugar a volleyball o bailar a los ultimos ritmos de hip hop yankee… en fin tipica vida Lao!!
Hicimos un par de dias de tubing, uno con Emanuel y otro con Franky y Paula (Una pareja argentina que conocimos unos dias antes). La primera vez fue bastante divertido porque nos metimos en el papel, paramos en los bares, saltamos de algunos columpios, bebimos un poquillo y nos mezclamos con los personajes tuberos… La segunda vez fue mas light y nos dedicamos a relajarnos contemplando el paisaje.
A parte de tubing, Vang Vieng ofrece otras cosas, que aturdidos port anta cerveza y golpes contra el agua, la mayoria de turistas ignoran… Siri y yo seguimos labrando nuestro futuro como escaladores! Y con un par de dias de clase (y un par de otra cosa…) empezamos a saber lo que hacemos y a disfrutar mucho de este nuevo hobby!
Y bueno, pasamos una semana en Vang Vieng, y a parte de estas actividades solo cabe destacar lo siguiente: Pasamos unas cuantas horas viendo peliculas tirados en un bar; nuestra dieta se volvio bastante occidental con pasta, pizzas y hamburguesas; dimos una vuelta en bicicleta (mi cadena se salia constantemente y Siri tubo que empujarme la mitad del camino); y vivimos nuestra primera tormenta tropical (carteles volando, rayos y truenos a poca distancia, cubos de agua caiendo del cielo, una experiencia impactante…)
Vang Vieng, little town in between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, it’s the number one backpacker destination in Laos. The main attraction is Tubing. The activity consists on floating on a truck tier and sailing down the river, from 8km north back to Vang Vieng.
The river surroundings are amazing, unbelievable cliffs and forests, and floating on a shitty tube makes you really feel part of nature itself. But well… that doesn’t really matter to the vast majority! Because the main activity consists in going down the river while stopping every 50meters in one of the bars on every side… and then drink as much buzz as you can hold, jump out of some swings, play some volleyball and dance to the latest hip hop tunes… Lao lifestyle all the way!
We did tube a couple of times, once with Emanuel and the other with Franky y Paula (An argentinia couple we met some days before). The first time was fun, we really got into it, stopped at the bars, jumped a little, got a little drunk and mixed up with some of the badass “billabongstyle” tubers… The second time we took it easy and enjoyed the ride all the way back to town.
Besides tubing Vang Vieng offers much other things to do, even though confused by too many beers and hitting the water to hard the majority of tourists ignore… Siri and I continued to work on a future climbing career! And with a two day course (and a pair of…) we are starting to know what we are doing and to enjoy this new hobby very much! Climbing Rocks!
And well, we stayed for one week in Vang Vieng, and besides this activities there is little more to say: We spent many hours laying in bars watching movies; we got back to a quite western diet with pasta, pizza and hamburgers; we kind of rode a bike around (my chain went off constantly so Siri had to push me half the way); and we saw our first tropical storm (flying signs, power out, pretty close lightings, buckets of water falling of the sky… an impacting experience…)
